Dreamhost started its operation in 1996 in Los Angeles. The company has grown to power over 1.5 million websites and has over 400,000 happy customers.
Dreamhost is one of the best web hosting providers endorsed and recommended by WordPress. Though WordPress also endorsed Bluehost. But am sure Dreamhost is also good for WordPress because I have personally used them and I love their live support and one-click WordPress installer.
Dreamhost is not only good for bloggers. Even web developers can also enjoy using Dreamhost to power their projects because their hosting packages come with some great apps such as Ruby on Rails, MongoDB, and Redis.
The company is also an OpenStack Foundation Gold Member. Their support to open source includes financial backing, coding contributions, and community leadership.
Few advantages of Dreamhost web hosting service
One of the good features of Dreamhost is its affordable month-to-month plan. Also, their monthly billing option means that you can cancel at any time without getting extra charges. The same value you will get from their annual hosting plan is the same thing you will get from their monthly plan.
If you can’t spend too much money on their annual plan. You can use their monthly hosting plan for your website. The affordability of their monthly plan with the features in it is better than what you will get from other hosting companies.
Uptime is one of the features every web hosting company should provide for its customers. No business owner would want their website to go offline for any reason. Even if it happens, you will want it to be back online very fast.
The more your site is offline the more money you may lose. Many tests have been done on Dreamhost to check their stability and all the results show that they are stable and reliable.
Dreamhost really assured their customers a 100% uptime guarantee. They are the only shared hosting company that offers that high guarantee. If in any chance you find out that your website was down. Dreamhost refunds you for the amount of time your site was down.
Out of other hosting providers, I found out that only Dreamhost gives its users a 97-days money-back guarantee, which is very good. your 97-day trial is risk-free and you can get all your money back if you don’t like their service.
The money-back guarantee is only for people applying for shared hosting plans and those who purchased through credit cards and Google checkout.
Dreamhost doesn’t offer antimalware service on its email, but there are other many security features in their system. one them is that their control panel makes it easy for users to access and edit the .htaccess file, which helps you to manage who can access your site and also set up passwords.
Dreamhost also gives you the ability to block spiders in case they are some part of your website you don’t want them indexed in search engines.
Another great thing about Dreamhost is that they offer free SSL certificates, which is good for store owners. they also offer SSH and SFTP access, and it also supports HTTP/2, PHP 7, and has its own firewall.
If you purchase an annual hosting plan from Dreamhost, they will also give you a free domain name, but after one year, you will pay %15.95 for renewal.
Dreamhost dashboard is very different from others, it looks clean and modern, it is also designed to be user-friendly.
Unlike other web hosting companies that use CPanel software, Dreamhost designed a custom panel for you to take control of your website.
Dreamhost allows all its accounts to get free unlimited bandwidth and excess storage. If you are looking for unlimited storage, you can upgrade to one of their higher plans. Their shared starter package will limit you to 50 GB of storage.
How to purchase your web hosting from Dreamhost
I know you have seen some of Dreamhost’s advantages, now you can proceed to buy your web hosting from Dreamhost. In this part, I will show you all the step-by-step guides on how to purchase your hosting space.
1. Go to the Dreamhost website
If you want to purchase your web hosting from Dreamhost, then you have to first visit their website by clicking here. Once you are on their website, you can proceed with this tutorial.
When land on their website. You will see a Get Started button, click on it. Then it will lead you to the page where you will start your registration.
2. Choose a hosting plan
The Dreamhost comes with only three hosting plans, the Shared Starter plan, DreamPress, and VPS. DreamPress is specifically designed for people who want to build their website with WordPress and VPS is for virtual private servers. I will not recommend beginners to go for VPS because it is not easy to manage.
The Shared Starter plan is best for beginners but you are limited to one website, but if you choose shared unlimited you can host multiple sites on it.
The DreamPress plan is mainly built for WordPress website owners, though the DreamPress has three packages under it, you can only host one website on all of them but it ranges from the amount of traffic you will get on your website, DreamPress is for a website with 100k visitors, DreamPress Plus is for a website with 300k monthly visitors and DreamPress Pro is for sites with over one million monthly visitors and also costly which is not the best for beginners.
The Dreamhost VPS has up to 4 packages under it, which are Basic, Business, Professional, and Enterprise. You can host unlimited websites on any of these packages but it is a little bit complex to manage and also not cheap for beginners.
I recommend you start with the Shared Starter plan, then when your website begins to make enough money and traffic then you can upgrade to higher plans.
When you have decided on the best plan that suits you click on sign up to purchase your web hosting from Dreamhost.
3. Choose a domain name
From here you can choose the domain name you want for your website. Dreamhost will not charge you for a domain name if your hosting plan is for one year.
You will see three boxes, the first one will ask to ‘Choose a domain later’ the second box will ask you to ‘Register a domain. While the third box will ask if ‘You already have a domain.
If you don’t know the domain name you want to use for your website at this point. You can go for ‘Choose a domain later’ and proceed with purchasing your hosting space. Later from your account, you can add a domain name. But if you already know the domain you want to use then choose ‘Register a new domain’ or you can use a domain you have bought from another company like Namecheap by clicking ‘I already have a domain’.
In case you click on register a new domain and entered the domain you want to use for your website, I recommend you choose a .com extension and if the domain name you choose is available, Dreamhost will show available in the result section.
After you are done with choosing a domain name. Just click add to cart and you will be directed to the checkout page where you will enter your billing information.
4. Enter your payment information
The checkout page is where you will be asked to filling your billing details for your registration to be successful. You can either choose to pay with a credit card or pay with Paypal, the choice is yours.
If you choose to pay with a credit card. Then you will be asked to enter your billing details after you have entered your credit card details. But if you choose PayPal you will be directed to the Paypal payment processor.
Once you are done with the filling of your billing information. Click on ‘Add Credit Card’ and if the credit card details are okay. They will confirm and store it on their system and you can proceed in completing your registration.
After you have finished adding your credit card. You will now fill in your account details which will be used in setting up your web hosting account.
Dreamhost also suggests additional add-ons for your hosting package. I recommend you choose only a pre-install WordPress add-on as a beginner later you can choose other add-ons you can afford.
Once you are done with filling in every detail. Click on submit other and wait for them to process your package after they have finished setting up your account. You will receive an email from Dreamhost. The email will contain your control panel login details. You can also chat with them if you need extra help.
I hope this tutorial was helpful, you can ask me questions if you need extra help.
